Message from White Plains, City of, NY
3/22/2020
The numbers released by NY State today indicate Westchester County now has 1873 cases of which 486 are new. Of the 1,873 cases, 35 are White Plains residents. The total number of people tested in Westchester County is 10,647 up from 5694 three days ago. The increased number of countywide cases reflects the dramatic increase in the number of people being tested which is more accurately reflecting the spread of the disease. The number of confirmed cases has increased in almost the exact same proportion as the number tested. The good news is that we can isolate those who are sick, and slow the rate of growth of positive cases. It is important to note that the more restrictive social distancing measures recently introduced, will be impacting future not current numbers
I received reports from residents today regarding people playing organized sports on a school field. The police dispersed the individuals but I must stress again how important it is that people follow the orders banning the use of playgrounds and allowing the use of fields and parks only for solitary recreation. If you see a violation please alert our police department at the non emergency number 422-6111. Complying with the social distancing regulations put in place by the governor and the city are the most effective thing any of us can do to slow the rate of new infections and allow hospital capacity to keep pace. People will live or die based on what each of us as individuals do, I recognize how difficult this is for everyone in so many ways but we must stay the course. We must respond as a community and to do that we need everyone to be on board. This is White Plains, we know how to do that. It’s who we are.
Remember we are standing together by staying apart.
